ABOUT ME
It is a simple fact that life is not the same for everyone. Each human being has their own story and unique perspective on the world, which needs to be taken into account when communicating.

Through my work as a journalist, I have strived to ensure that everyone I interview feels safe to tell their stories. While it may not be easy, storytelling is an essential part of life. Without it, we may never gain insight and wisdom into those philosophies which drive us and our communities. It is within that understand, we can become better people, not only for ourselves, but for society at large.

It is this love of storytelling which drives me to creative pursuits, such as poetry and fiction writing. Although journalism is my first love, honing my craft in these other fields has opened doors for communication I may have otherwise missed.

I got my start in journalistic writing at The Viking Scroll, a student outlet dedicated to providing hands-on training in research writing, interview skills, content and copy editing, and print layout. Under my supervision as editor-in-chief, the newspaper grew double in size. I also coordinated with staff to create an advertising branch to cover print costs and offer local businesses advertising space to our readership. My work ethic was awarded with a journalism scholarship in 2014.

Later, I was appointed to assistant news editor of ZU News, where I oversaw the coverage of several high-profile issues within the community. These included discrimination claims pertaining to LGBTQ+ rights, protests and institutional changes. I was promoted within a year to news editor. This allowed me to assign stories to staff and complete digital and print layout. I also aided in editing content to be published virtually on ZU TV, a branch of ZU Media.

I continued to hone my craft with freelance projects. I worked as a copy editor for various companies and individuals. I was also published in Harness Magazine, Beyond Words Magazine, Moonstone Arts Center Publications, Scriberr Media, and various platforms on Medium. I currently work as an associate editor at Modern Women and have recently published my first book, Monday at Sundown. For more information, please view my CV below.
